Puerto de Santiago holidays have some of the most beautiful local beaches in Tenerife. Canary Islands getaways are full of activity in this quiet fishing village, from exciting boat trips and watersports to Mount Teide hiking trips.
Puerto de Santiago is on the west coast of Tenerife. This whitewashed hillside town is nestled between Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena, and packs in lots of laidback bars and restaurants. Plus, go to the local fishing museum, and you’ll learn all about its history as a quiet, traditional fishing village.
The local beach in Puerto de Santiago is on the petite side. If you’re not lucky enough to bag a sunbathing spot there, it’s no biggie – a 10-minute walk to Playa de la Arena lands you on black volcanic-sand shores. This one’s got Blue Flag beach status, too, and there are lots of sunlounger rentals available. It’s just a 10-minute drive to Los Gigantes Beach, as well, where you’ll find towering cliffs, a marina and a diving centre.
When it comes to Puerto de Santiago daytrips, the world’s third-highest volcano is up there with the most popular. It’s around an hour’s drive to Mount Teide, and trekkers who like a challenge can take on the five-hour summit hike. Cable car access means you can still get the panoramic Canary Islands views at the top without breaking a sweat, too. Back at sea level, you can get some fresh sea air after smelling Teide’s smouldering sulphurous summit by hopping on one of the Los Gigantes volcanic cave cruises. You’ll cruise around in the shadow of the massive cliffs.
